How ShiftScout Works
Share the shift
An employee shares a shift they can't work — the whole shift or part of it — and picks the skill required to cover it.
A coworker claims it
Eligible coworkers see the open shift on the marketplace. It's first come, first served — whoever claims it first sends the request.
Manager approves
The manager reviews the claim and approves or declines it. The shift isn't reassigned until they do.
Schedule updates
Once approved, both employees' schedules in ShiftScout update to reflect the change.
A Skill-Based Marketplace
Not every open shift can go to just anyone. When a shift is shared, it's tagged with the skill it requires — and only coworkers who have that skill can see it on the marketplace.
Skills are set by the employee when they join and can be updated by a manager — they aren't a certification or a formal credential, just a way of matching who can cover what.
Share a Whole Shift or Just Part of One
A shift doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing swap. An employee scheduled 9:00 AM–5:00 PM who only needs coverage from noon to 3:00 PM can share just that block.
If a coworker claims it and a manager approves, the schedule splits automatically: the original employee keeps 9:00 AM–noon and 3:00–5:00 PM, and the coworker who claimed it is scheduled for the part in between.
Employees Handle the Request. Managers Keep Approval.
Employees can share and claim shifts on their own — no manager has to get involved in finding coverage. But nothing changes on the actual schedule until a manager approves or declines the request.
